Washington, D.C., May 3, 2021 - On May 1, over 200 registered guests gathered virtually to celebrate the launch of Mosaic as a newly formed nonprofit organization in the District of Columbia dedicated to Muslim federal employees. The Official Launch and 7th Annual Ramadan event featured a keynote address by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. Ellison previously served as the first Muslim elected to Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota’s 5th congressional district in 2006.
“It is important to pull us together. Organizations like Mosaic support career development of federal employees, pulling together on a nonpartisan basis. We come together and we build bridges across the nation and country,” said Attorney General Ellison. He also added, “do good for the community and don’t forget what community you belong to.”
The event was hosted by Mosaic Vice President Rabeah Sabri, who said, “this event has served as an occasion to renew our commitment to public service, to be grateful for the good, hopeful for the future, and to have some fun.”
Mosaic Executive Board Members announced expanded operations, long-term plans, and celebrated community members. Mosaic recently became a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia with current fiscal sponsorship from the American Muslim Community Foundation (AMCF) pending 501(c)3 approval from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
Mosaic Advisory Board Member Patrice Willoughby, Managing Director and Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the Signal Group, stated, “representation from the Muslim community is critical in public life and public service. Members of Mosaic have subject matter expertise and represent the mission of their agencies on behalf of the American people.”
