About Mosaic

We created Mosaic to serve as a gathering place for American Muslims in federal government and to help those who aspire to serve.

Our Vision

Mosaic aims to support American Muslims serving in government and to draw more American Muslims into public service. We seek to elevate public service as a prestigious and honorable career path and as a call to action for the faithful.

We will work to support and mentor American Muslims at all levels of their careers within the federal government.

Our Mission

The mission of Mosaic is to establish a professional network of American Muslims in the federal government dedicated to career advancement, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion. We advance our mission by:

  • Promoting professional development and leadership training;

  • Serving as a gateway for the recruitment of American Muslims into the federal space;

  • Serving as an advocate of equal opportunity for Muslim federal employees;

  • Gathering and disseminating information to Muslims in the federal government;

  • Providing a nonpartisan platform on major issues of local, regional, and national significance that affect American Muslims in the federal government; and

  • Serving as a venue to grow a greater sense of community among American Muslims in the federal government.

Our History

While the COVID-19 pandemic dampened in-person gatherings, planning to formalize the “Muslim Feds” network into an organization began at the first Muslim Feds virtual iftar in 2020. Mosaic co-founders announced their official launch in April 2021 on the eve of Ramadan.

Mosaic is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Our Name

The name Mosaic encompasses our diverse community and was inspired by a first tour foreign service officer who in January 2021 co-founded the U.S. Department of State's Employee Affinity Group (EAG) Mosaic. The EAG was founded with a focus on reasonable accommodation issues and professional development. It was also featured in the March 2021 issue of the State Magazine.

“Mosaic does not represent any singular cultural, ideological, or religious perspective and is a space for all employees, regardless of how they identify, interested in professional development.”

It is with this spirit that the Mosaic Muslim Federal Employee Association hopes to also operate. While we share a name, Mosaic Muslim Federal Employee Association is not associated with nor represents the EAG Mosaic.

Our Logo

The Mosaic logo is inspired by the idea that the Muslim Federal community is rich in diversity, representative of many races, cultures, ethnicities, and traditions. The logo is filled with vibrant shades of gold, teal, dark blue, rose and maroon circles, with the individual pieces forming perfectly into the single letter “m,” which represents both “Mosaic” and “Muslim.”

In Islamic art, geometric patterns are prominent in houses of worship. The repeating patterns are symbolic of the infinite nature of Allah and provide a means for thoughtful reflection on our life and Creator.

The Mosaic logo was designed by the combined talents of our web developer, Gul Gharbieh and Mosaic co-founder, Ali Malik.
